A collision of icy blue water with the warmth of summer sunlight on skin.
I have been an artist all my life. I love watercolors. My favorite medium, but I also work in acrylics. I love to draw and always have a sketchbook with me.
I find my artistic inspiration in my surroundings: the local landscape, common objects, and the people I encounter. I strive to capture the subject matter simply, focusing on the color palette to express the feeling of the scene. My primary medium is watercolor, but I enjoy exploring new methods and techniques to continue to challenge myself and find more depth within my artworks.
I am a self taught artist who works mostly in acrylics. I enjoy painting nautical sights, but I have also done many commissioned pieces, including portraits. My work has been displayed in several galleries from time to time, and I also do solo shows when space is available. You can see my work on my website at: wj-bowers.pixels.com
I usually look for subjects that are iconic and meaningful. Then I aim for the essence and beauty as in a metaphor and combination of the universal and personal.
My daily ritual is to walk several miles, watching and listening, trying to capture in light, color, and form in what I see. I have a special affection for wild creatures, especially birds, whose colors, shapes, and poses captivate me, and I have worked hard to identify the birds around me even through their songs. Through my work, I want to share the many faces of nature, the wildness of spirit, and the interplay of light and shadow woven into the tapestry of the natural world.
If you have frolicked after a party and danced on Cliff Walk, you might lose your pearls. You also may fall into the rocks below, however, you could find your pearls.
The "Scapes" of life are endlessly fascinating and lead me to capture them in oil or watercolor. Landscapes, seascapes and architectural "scapes" invite me. to tell their stories. My intention is to bring the viewer as much of the character and feeling I experienced when a scene first spoke to me. I have been creating art for a very long time and it is one of the great joys in my life
Raised by a sculptor and a gallery owner art has always played a formative role in my life. My work in clay combines form, color and an interest in the natural world.
To capture and create from nature a visually pleasing and meaningful experience.
Collage is a favorite medium of mine. I started making these hearts for friends to thank them. Maybe you have someone special you would like to give one to.
I am a stained glass artist who also loves wood. I love combining different mediums. When I finished this piece, it reminded of something Picasso would make. I'm sure if he were around today, he probably would love steampunk too (lol) What can you see in this piece?
I love to paint as a means of relaxation and meditation. Flowers serve as an excellent subject - each one is unique, can be painted in many ways, and is beautiful from bud to releasing all of their petals.
I enjoy capturing the world around me through intense color and stylized form - a sort of translation of my perceptions, expressing joy, whimsy and philosophy, in paint. On occasion, I incorporate text into a painting as my message to the world.
I am an artist and I use my digital SLR camera to create images that capture a special moment. I usually make these images black and white to bring attention to what is central to the image. I call myself the "Image Maker".
Holiday Cheer, once a year !
I love color. I look at nature and all the beauty surrounding me hoping I can capture and express the colors and vitality. I have been painting since I was 6 years old. I'm originally from Michigan where I accompanied my father with the rest of our family on fishing trips on the Ausable River. I painted on old window shades from our cottage on the lake. My life has changed since then and I've had many opportunities to paint life in various media. I've used watercolors, pastels oil and mixed media to paint throughout New England. My medium of choice at this time is oil but I continue to paint from life and the beauty around me. Recently my focus has been on RI. My subjects are the waters, rocks and iconic structures where I live. I'm also painting still lifes of oyster shells, flowers and figures in the garden.
The paintings in this group reflect the landscape that I
live in, and the collage is from imagination. When traveling
near or far, I seek out the local hills, waters, vegetation
and early, distinctive or historic architectural detail.
Although some classify my landscapes as "pretty", that is
not my goal. My aim is to convey a feeling of connection and
tranquility. People often ask, how do you begin and how do
you know when you're done? My work always reflects a scene
& the connection I have to it. When people see my work,
I want them to connect, feel an emotion. I know I'm done
when the piece I've been working on is saying what I
intended it to say.
My
Way or the Steinway is an expression of how I once felt
about being involved with two art forms. I have one foot in
the art world and the other foot in the world of music. I
used to feel guilt because I was serving two masters; my
painting might suffer as a consequence, but I have since
gotten over this feeling.
I take inspiration from music now with visual images that I
conjure up such as Pirate Jenny which is a song from The
Three Penny Opera written by Bertolt Brecht with music by
Kurt Weill.
I call these pieces "informal art", by which I mean their subjects and treatment are not heavy with meaning! And yet they belong within my range of artistic abilities. I enjoy producing informal art. It makes me smile and I always hope that they make other people smile too.
I have always been fascinated by other cultures and historical artifacts and many of my works, especially female figures, are influenced by this. A process called Raku was used to glaze these ladies and the beauty of this results in each piece being one of a kind & unrepeatable, just like every person is unique unto themselves.
As a photographer, I've always been fascinated by the way light transforms a subject. For instance, I don't take a photograph of a boat, per se. Rather, I try to capture how the light hits the bow, or how lines in a reflection weave into a pattern. I don't shoot a landscape; rather, I try to capture how light filters through mist or wet grasses to transform the mood of the moment. My photography has taken me to countries all over world and back home again, and, always, I transform the ordinary, through light, into the extraordinary. As my photography continues to evolve, the transformative power of natural light remains constant.
I am a mixed media artist who lives in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. I work mostly in abstract mixed media work but also dabble in oil and cold wax abstract ocean paintings. I use almost any medium to express myself and tend to use vibrant color as it gives me great joy to play in my paintings.
What attracts me to printmaking is the unique aesthetics of each print technique as well as the importance on both the creative and technical aspects. I love the entire process of printmaking-planning, preparing plates, printing, problem-solving; the craftsmanship involved. I think there is something very special about indirect art techniques-where the plates and blocks you spend hours, days, even weeks carving, drawing, or etching are not the finished product. All the extra steps required make the final artwork ever more rewarding. Starting from figure drawing sketches, I let each image develop intuitively, first by drawing and then throughout the carving and printing process. Ultimately, I aim to create a series of bizarre portraits that reflect on human existence and perceptions of self.
I am an acrylic painter based in Fall River Ma. My subjects consists of plants, animals, and astronauts with lollipops! Although this is my style now, the pieces submitted are older works. I hope you will enjoy them!
Among my prints in this show, I explore different methods of printmaking. The piece, The Fourth is a communal gathering in Jamestown, where I live.
